The natural healing springs beneath the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa were once considered sacred by the Tocobaga people, who believed they protected the land from hurricanes. This protection held until Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, leading to local theories that developers who cleared ancient live oak trees may have pushed their luck too far.
